Arrive with a plan

Use Reims Centre for this city plan. Pommery’s visitor information identifies bus C to the Pommery stop, with an indicative 20-minute journey from the central station. Check the dated service and allow additional time for the walk to your booked entrance.

Get back comfortably

Plan the return from the Saint-Nicaise cellar area to Reims Centre before booking a train. If you choose the 14:00 grower tour below, the meeting point moves back to Reims Centre: have an earlier lunch near the station and be there by 13:55.

What to budget

€72 per adult for the €42 Le Jardin menu plus €30 self-guided Pommery visit, or €78 with the €36 guided visit. Cathedral entry is free.

Drinks not included in the selected menu, buses or taxis, rail travel and accommodation are additional. Confirm the menu applies to your sitting. The grower tour has its own separate price.

Price evidence checked 2026-10-10. Confirm the current total for your date.

Choose the day that fits you

The standard Pommery cellars involve 116 steps and are cool. The house advertises adapted visits, which must be arranged directly. Cathedral, lunch and transport access still need to match your individual requirements.

A gentler option: Ask Pommery for the adapted visit before committing to lunch or train times. If unavailable, choose a ground-level experience confirmed by a Champagne house and keep the cathedral and seated meal. Do not infer cellar access from Ruinart’s accessible public spaces.

The day plan

Use Reims as a city base and make Pommery the afternoon appointment. The cathedral belongs to the morning, followed by lunch near the chalk-cellar district at Saint-Nicaise. This route concentrates on Reims; the vineyard villages need a separate countryside day and booked transport. On Sunday, move the cathedral after its morning services.

Above ground, then below

These suggested timings pair a leisurely Le Jardin lunch with a 15:00 Pommery visit. They do not fit the separate 14:00 grower tour: choose that alternative with an earlier lunch near Reims Centre. The booked cellar slot and cathedral services determine the final order.

  1. 09:30 suggested

    Notre-Dame de Reims

    Allow 45–60 minutes

Begin with architecture, stained glass and the city. On Sundays, move this visit after noon because of morning services. Tower tours are separate, with their own ticket and access conditions.

Allow time for the onward journey to Le Jardin; check a live route rather than assuming a short walk.

  2. 12:15 suggested

    Brasserie Le Jardin

    Allow 90–120 minutes for lunch

A reserved lunch on the Les Crayères grounds gives the day a deliberate pause. Choose from the actual menu for your visit; a terrace table or particular dish is never promised here.

Leave a buffer for the short-area transfer to Pommery, using current directions to the visitor entrance.

  3. 15:00 suggested, subject to booking

    Pommery’s chalk cellars

45-minute Brut Royal visit published; allow longer overall

Follow the selected visit through chalk spaces and contemporary art. Keep time beyond the stated tour for arrival and the tasting, then return to the city for an evening without another appointment.

Use your planned transport back to the centre or accommodation. Do not add a village excursion after the visit by default.

Places & booking

Official venue links, indicative costs and access information. Reserve each visit, meal and transfer directly.

Heritage stop

Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims

A substantial non-wine beginning that places Reims in its royal and architectural history; it gives the day a reason beyond the number of tastings.

Cost

Ordinary cathedral entry is free according to its official visitor page; guided and tower visits are separate offers.

Booking

Consult the cathedral’s current visitor and service arrangements. No visits Sunday 09:00–12:00; tower tours have separate conditions.

Address
Place du Cardinal Luçon, Reims
Time here
Allow 45–60 minutes
Access
Ask about the route and any special visit you intend; tower access has different requirements from ground-level visiting.

Restaurant

Brasserie Le Jardin — Domaine Les Crayères

The Saint-Nicaise location pairs geographically with the Pommery afternoon. It is the longer-lunch option, not a sensible meal immediately before a 14:00 station departure.

Cost

Official page advertises a €42 three-course menu; verify current menu, date and sitting. Drinks are additional unless specified.

Booking

Open to non-residents. Published lunch service is 12:00–14:00 daily; use the official page’s table reservation and confirm dietary requirements.

Address
64 boulevard Henry Vasnier, 51100 Reims
Time here
Allow 90–120 minutes for lunch
Access
Contact the restaurant about entrance, seating and mobility needs. Its page asks guests with particular dietary requirements to contact the team beforehand.

Chalk-cellar visit

Domaine Vranken-Pommery

The chalk cellars make Champagne’s underground scale tangible. Choose the visit format deliberately rather than adding another house simply to collect labels.

Cost

Brut Royal self-guided €30, guided €36 published when checked; combined products differ.

Booking

Select the cellar product and language through the official visit page. The estate is generally open daily, with published annual closures; Villa Demoiselle hours differ.

Address
5 place du Général Gouraud, 51100 Reims
Time here
Brut Royal visit: 45 minutes published; check your chosen product
Access
A 116-step staircase and 10°C cellar temperature are published. The site also advertises visits for impaired mobility: agree the specific route before booking.

Alternative estate visit

Ruinart — 4 rue des Crayères

An alternative house experience for a different appointment or artistic interest, not an extra cellar automatically added to the same afternoon.

Cost

Use the operator’s current experience listing for prices.

Booking

Treat this as a replacement for Pommery, not an extra tasting to squeeze in. Book cellar experiences separately from visiting the public estate spaces.

Address
4 rue des Crayères, Reims
Time here
Check the selected experience; no universal duration assumed
Access
The house lists ground-level entry, accessible parking and toilets; contact it to establish whether the particular cellar experience suits your needs.

Travel details

Suggested: one full Reims day and an overnight stay; add a separate day for vineyard villages.

When to go

Monday–Saturday fits the cathedral-first sequence, subject to reservations and events. Sunday visits are restricted 09:00–12:00 during services, so move the cathedral later. Check Pommery and Le Jardin for your date; Villa Demoiselle has a different calendar.

Getting here

Check trains to Reims Centre or Champagne-Ardenne TGV and the onward journey from the station actually shown on your ticket. These are different arrival points. Keep the first appointment loose if travelling that morning; a rail arrival time does not include luggage, transfers and finding the entrance.

Moving between stops

Walk within the centre where suitable. Pommery’s visitor page identifies bus C to the Pommery stop from Reims Centre; check the dated service or book a taxi for the Saint-Nicaise cellar area. The independent 12:15 Le Jardin lunch fits the 15:00 Pommery plan. If choosing the 14:00 grower tour instead, eat earlier near Reims Centre and reach its meeting point by 13:55.

What to budget

Pommery’s site publishes €30 for the self-guided Brut Royal visit and €36 guided. Le Jardin advertises a €42 three-course menu; check the current menu and applicable sitting. Drinks, transport, other admissions and accommodation are additional.

If the day changes

Prefer a different house?

Choose one confirmed Ruinart experience instead of Pommery and rebuild lunch around that time. Public gardens and pavilion access do not automatically include a cellar visit.

Want the vineyard villages?

Add a separate guided or driven day with explicit pickup and named stops. Avoid treating Reims, Épernay and rural grower visits as one spontaneous walking itinerary.

In your glass

Ask about the wine, then enjoy the place.

Keep the tasting question attached to what you are actually offered. A simple comparison can be more memorable than a rushed lesson in every Champagne term.

Ask your host: “What is the most useful difference to notice between the two champagnes you are showing us?”

Family growers and Champagne from Reims

An afternoon with two family wineries, tastings and return transport from Reims. Use it as an alternative to the Pommery appointment.

Starts from
Tourist office at Reims Centre train station, Cour de la Gare
Duration
Allow approximately 4 hours 30 minutes

How this fits your trip

Meet / depart
Reims Centre station tourist office on Cour de la Gare: listed 14:00 departure, arrive by 13:55; approximately 4½ hours.
How it fits
The independent Pommery afternoon. The 12:15 Le Jardin meal is not compatible with a comfortable 13:55 station arrival if it takes the planned 90–120 minutes.
Arrange first
Have an earlier lunch near Reims Centre, then meet the tour. Keep the cathedral morning only if it leaves a comfortable break; do not retain the 15:00 Pommery reservation.
Not included
The tour’s two family-grower visits are its own selection. Le Jardin, Pommery and independent rail travel are not included in that booking.

Listed 14:00–18:30. Reims Centre is different from Champagne-Ardenne TGV. Confirm the current departure and minimum group requirement.
