Arrive with a plan

Use CP to check Porto–Régua–Pinhão services and disruption notices for your date. Pinhão station is the arrival point for this village plan, not Porto. If luggage, mobility or accommodation makes the walk impractical, the national tourism directory lists Pinhão-based About Douro for transfer enquiries.

Get back comfortably

Choose your Pinhão departure train before fixing lunch. If staying farther up a hillside, ask for a confirmed collection from the restaurant or station as well as the outward ride. For the optional Régua museum morning, plan a separate dated rail connection.

What to budget

€8 per adult for the optional Museu do Douro visit in Régua. No verified subtotal is available for the main Pinhão day.

Obtain the actual Bomfim experience price and Bomfim 1896 menu, then add trains, any local transfer and accommodation. The museum’s €8 is not a budget for the winery day.

Price evidence checked 2026-10-10. Confirm the current total for your date.

Choose the day that fits you

Pinhão’s station, waterfront and estates do not form a verified step-free route. Museu do Douro publishes lift access; winery walking, thresholds and restaurant arrangements require confirmation.

A gentler option: Choose one seated winery appointment with its access confirmed, arrange close drop-offs and omit extra vineyard walking. If the estate route is unsuitable, make the Régua museum and a nearby meal the day’s focus rather than promising a modified cellar tour.

The day plan

Make Pinhão your first base: the railway station, riverfront and Quinta do Bomfim belong to the same village visit. Book Bomfim’s estate experience and restaurant separately, using Tuesday–Saturday if including Bomfim 1896’s regular service. The terraces beyond the village need more transport planning. Add a second day in Peso da Régua for Museu do Douro rather than fitting it between Pinhão appointments.

Pinhão: tiles, an estate and lunch

Suggested allowances; fit the sequence to confirmed appointments and transport. Staying locally is the easiest way to enjoy the restaurant without watching a train clock.

  1. Morning

    Pinhão railway station

    Allow 20–30 minutes

Look at the 25 azulejo panels depicting vineyard work and local landscapes. This is a working station, so keep platforms and passenger routes clear; no tasting expertise is needed to enjoy the tiles.

Check the pedestrian route and entrance to Quinta do Bomfim; leave an arrival buffer.

  2. Booked late morning

    Quinta do Bomfim

Allow approximately 90 minutes; confirm your chosen format

Choose one tour/tasting focused on the estate, its old lodge and either Port or Douro DOC wines. Ask whether the winery and outdoor portions are included; separate vineyard walks are also advertised.

If eating at Bomfim 1896, confirm the restaurant meeting point separately.

  3. Lunch

    Bomfim 1896

    Allow 90–120 minutes

A restaurant centred on wood-fired cooking at the same estate. Choose from the current menu and settle the cost directly. Afterwards, leave the afternoon for the riverfront and rest, rather than booking a second estate by reflex.

Check your return route before ordering another glass; riverfront time is optional.

Optional second day: understand the landscape

Make Régua a separate half-day with a checked train or transfer, rather than a rushed same-day detour.

  1. Late morning

Museu do Douro, Peso da Régua

    Allow 90 minutes

The museum introduces the region's landscape, work and wine culture in the historic Casa da Companhia. Check opening and return transport, then allow time for a separate lunch in Régua.

Confirm station-to-museum walking needs and your onward connection.

Estate visit

Quinta do Bomfim

An appointment close to Pinhão keeps the day within a manageable area while connecting the tasting to a working estate.

Cost

Confirm current tour/tasting price; several different selections are advertised.

Booking

Use the official visitor page's booking control and confirm the chosen date and inclusions.

Travel details

One full day in Pinhão; two days with the optional Régua museum visit.

When to go

Tuesday–Saturday if including Bomfim 1896, whose published regular service runs on those days. Bomfim visitor hours are broader. Spring or autumn suit outdoor time; avoid assuming vineyard walks are comfortable in summer heat.

Getting here

Check CP's live journey planner and service notices from Porto to Pinhão, including any change or replacement bus. Recent official notices show that disruption can affect the line. Keep arrival day free of a tight tasting deadline.

Moving between stops

Pinhão's station and riverfront make a manageable village base. Confirm the estate entrance and walking route; terraced vineyards are hilly and private. Prearrange taxis for countryside visits. Book the return rather than relying on a passing car after dinner.

What to budget

Ask for the current price of your chosen Bomfim tasting and restaurant menu. Museu do Douro publishes €8 individual admission. Add transport, meals and accommodation.

If the day changes

Wet day

Swap outdoor time for the Museu do Douro in Régua, checking transport and the museum’s own opening schedule first.

A second estate instead of a second tasting on the same day

Quinta da Roêda advertises visits by appointment near Pinhão. Arrange a separate day, transport and weather suitability directly; grape-treading is seasonal, never a year-round promise.

In your glass

Same valley, different wines.

Port and Douro DOC table wines both belong in the valley's story. A visit can focus on either; choosing before you book makes the experience clearer than discovering the distinction halfway through a flight.

Ask your host: “Could we compare a Douro table wine with a Port and talk about how they are made differently?”

Douro wineries, lunch and a river boat

A guided day combining two winery tastings, lunch and a one-hour river boat ride. A separate alternative to the self-guided Pinhão plan.

Starts from
Peso da Régua meeting point; some local accommodation pickup offered
Duration
Allow approximately 6–7 hours

How this fits your trip

Meet / depart
Listed start is 09:30 in Peso da Régua. A Pinhão pickup must be agreed with the operator; this is not a departure from Porto.
How it fits
An approximately six-to-seven-hour day with two wineries, lunch and a one-hour boat trip. Use it instead of the independent Bomfim day.
Arrange first
Confirm the pickup in writing before choosing an arrival train or staying in Pinhão. Do not book Bomfim or Bomfim 1896 for the same time.
Not included
Travel from Porto to the confirmed meeting point is separate. The operator’s winery and lunch selection does not guarantee the guide’s Bomfim bookings.

Listed departure 09:30. Pickup around Pinhão must be confirmed with the operator. Confirmation can take up to 48 hours. No Porto pickup is promised here.
