Arrive with a plan

Check Autolinee Toscane’s Florence–Greve service for your date if arriving without a car. The bus to Greve does not solve the separate Verrazzano estate journey. Ask Greve’s municipal tourist office for a licensed taxi or transfer contact and quote the exact estate visit and return time.

Get back comfortably

Reserve Verrazzano–Greve collection before booking the visit, then leave a margin before the bus to Florence. If including Montefioralle, agree that additional leg and the return in the same quote; it is an uphill detour, not a free extra between appointments.

What to budget

€36 per adult for Verrazzano’s 90-minute Classic Wine Tour, or €74 for its three-hour Wine and Food Experience including lunch. Choose one.

Transfers, the bus from Florence, other meals and accommodation are extra. The €36 visit needs a separate meal; the €74 food experience should replace that lunch booking.

Price evidence checked 2026-10-10. Confirm the current total for your date.

Choose the day that fits you

The estate and Montefioralle are hillside locations. The optional village walk includes a substantial climb; a vehicle arrival does not establish step-free access inside either destination.

A gentler option: Keep Piazza Matteotti and a seated meal in Greve, book one estate experience only if the operator confirms the complete access route, and omit Montefioralle. Ask the tourist office for a suitable vehicle and the closest permitted drop-off.

The day plan

Choose Greve in Chianti for the town, Verrazzano for the estate visit and Montefioralle for hilltop lanes. The winery leg needs arranged transport; the approach to Montefioralle is an optional uphill walk. Decide whether Verrazzano’s selected experience includes lunch before reserving a separate meal. Montalcino, Montepulciano and the coast belong to other routes.

A Greve-based Chianti day

Suggested schedule; move the town walk around your actual winery slot. For Verrazzano's lunch experience, replace the independent lunch break and allow three hours at the estate.

  1. Morning

    Greve in Chianti

    Allow 60 minutes

Explore Piazza Matteotti and its arcades before the day's booked visit. Leave time for coffee and local shops rather than treating the square as a photograph taken while someone fetches the car.

Meet your prearranged driver with a buffer for the estate's access road and check-in.

  2. Confirmed appointment

    Castello di Verrazzano

Operator lists 90 minutes for Classic Wine Tour

The classic visit combines Renaissance gardens, historic cellars and an assisted tasting. Check the current booking catalogue for your chosen visit.

Return by arranged transfer. If choosing the classic tour, reserve lunch separately in Greve and allow approximately 90 minutes.

  3. Late afternoon, weather permitting

    Montefioralle

Allow 45 minutes in the village, plus travel

Walk the small stone lanes and look across the surrounding hills. The climb is optional; transfer uphill if you need to, and skip it when heat, rain or your return bus would turn the stop into work.

Return to Greve with a generous buffer for the confirmed bus or pickup.

Lunch, around your booking.

Places & booking

Official venue links, indicative costs and access information. Reserve each visit, meal and transfer directly.

Town walk

Greve in Chianti, Piazza Matteotti

The arcaded square supplies the market-town setting before the estate visit, and gives non-tasters somewhere worth spending time.

Cost

No ticket proposed for public streets; purchases and meals extra.

Booking

No street-walk booking; restaurants and organised activities separate.

Address
Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, 50022 Greve in Chianti
Time here
Allow 60 minutes plus meals
Access
Choose a route that suits your mobility; ask about restaurant access separately.

Estate tour and tasting

Castello di Verrazzano

One booked estate experience connects Chianti’s landscape and production without building an unrealistic circuit. The food version can also solve lunch.

Cost

Catalogue lists €36 Classic; €74 Wine and Food Experience. Confirm current total.

Booking

Reserve the specific experience and date through the estate's current booking catalogue.

Address
Via Castello di Verrazzano 1, Località Greti, 50022 Greve in Chianti
Time here
90-minute Classic or 180-minute food experience, per booking catalogue
Access
Historic gardens and cellars may involve steps; request precise access details.

Hilltop village walk

Montefioralle

A separate hill-village detour for people who want a walk and have daylight and energy left; it earns its place through the setting, not another tasting.

Cost

No ticket proposed for public lanes; transport extra.

Booking

No public-street booking. Private buildings and any events have separate access rules.

Address
Montefioralle, 50022 Greve in Chianti
Time here
Allow 45 minutes in the village
Access
The approach is steep and the lanes are paved in stone; check whether the route suits you.

Travel details

One full day; stay in Greve for dinner or add a second day in Chianti.

When to go

Choose a date with a confirmed estate appointment. Spring and autumn make the village walk easier; summer calls for an early start, water and less midday climbing. Verify seasonal opening rather than assuming every experience runs daily.

Getting here

Florence is a useful arrival gateway. Autolinee Toscane lists routes serving Greve; check the exact day's timetable, departure stop and last return. An arrival in Greve does not deliver you to a hillside estate. Book a driver or transfer for the winery portion.

Moving between stops

Greve's centre is walkable. Montefioralle is uphill: allow approximately 30–40 minutes each way at an easy pace, more in heat or with stops. Do not treat the drive to Verrazzano as a safe roadside walk. Arrange the outbound and return estate transfer together.

What to budget

Verrazzano's current booking catalogue lists the 90-minute Classic Wine Tour at €36 and the three-hour Wine and Food Experience at €74. Choose one; the latter includes lunch. Transfers and other meals are separate. Recheck the booking total for your date.

If the day changes

Rain or a full winery calendar

Keep a Greve town day and a separately reserved indoor meal. Enquire about another dated tasting rather than promising a walk-in cellar. Vignamaggio's Fattoria advertises tours and tastings, but is another site requiring its own booking and transport.

A second Chianti day

Use a driver for one further estate and a village such as Panzano. Resist adding Siena and a distant wine area simply because the road continues south.

In your glass

Ask for the local story.

For this corner of Tuscany, ask about Chianti Classico and the estate's other wines. Tuscany is not one uniform style, and the broad regional name should not replace the specific place on the bottle.

Ask your host: “Which wine best shows this estate, and what would you serve with it locally?”

How this fits your trip

Meet / depart
Florence: Parcheggio Oltrarno, Piazza della Calza 1. Listed meeting 09:45 for a 10:00 departure; approximately seven hours.
How it fits
A Florence-based Chianti and San Gimignano day. It replaces the Greve–Verrazzano itinerary, rather than providing a local transfer within it.

Not included
The guide’s Verrazzano appointment, Montefioralle detour and any journey from your Greve accommodation to Florence are separate from this product.

Listed meeting 09:45 for a 10:00 departure. Minimum participation applies. This does not book Castello di Verrazzano or provide pickup in Greve.
